Sara Pickowitz

Teacher

Birch Room

Sara is a graduate of University of Connecticut, graduating in 2018 with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies with a concentration in Early Child Development and Education. Sara has been working at the UConn Child Labs since August of 2019.

Sara’s passion is taking part in fostering the growth and development of young children. She strives to provide young children with the stepping stones to becoming kind, thoughtful and courageous human beings. Sara incorporates nature into her classroom through physical materials and also teaching children the importance of the natural world and how to love, protect and respect it.

In the classroom, Sara brings a gentle and welcoming presence. Her calm nature and positive attitude provides comfort to families, children and college students. Sara enjoys being a mentor to college students who work in her classroom. Her favorite aspect of working with them is watching each of them grow in their confidence and love for working with children as the semester goes on.

In her free time, you will often find her watching a whimsical movie, reading a book, enjoying the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. Sara looks forward to learning something new everyday in her classroom (from preschoolers and colleagues) and furthering her education through professional development.
